VILLAINOUS

The Poetry Brothel Toronto invites you to dress up and be entertained at Villainous - the next theme in our series of sexy, immersive, cabarets!

Join the Poetry Brothel Toronto for an evening of vivacious villainy! Where do the boundaries of heroism and villainy blur? How do context and narrative define our roles in the stories we live and create?

Come luxuriate in the magic and sensuality of our curated performances, and join our growing community of artists and art-loving movers and shakers! The Poetry Brothel’s Villainous will be a spicy evening peppered with costumed performers and partygoers, filled with poetry, music, comedy, sensual dancers, and ending with a fantastic dance party hosted by DJ FILM/MILF!

In every story, what makes a “Villain” is defined by perspective and context. The anti-hero is simply the antagonist to the protagonist, are they not? And the “Protagonist” is little more than the person the writer of the story has directed the audience to root for.

What one narrative system defines as evil, another may see as a necessary force - or even a misunderstood hero. Surely you can think of a film or two that exemplifies this.

Inviting you to step into the shoes (and clothing) of your favourite villain, villainous creature, or imagine the villainous side of your own alter ego, PBTo’s Villainous will be an evening of poetry, music, and dance, exploring the thematic limits of heroes and villains.

Through dramatic performances and interactive experiences, we'll delve into the complexity of villainy and how it shapes the narratives around morality and human interaction. Whether you dress as a classic villain of the Disney or DC lineages, or delve deeper to design your own interpretation of mythology’s villains, we will collectively engage with themes of power, conflict, and perspective - all while having a riotously good time at Toronto’s Super Wonder Gallery! Will you be there, or will you be… square?
