Workshops & More

The Poetry Brothel Toronto is now thrilled to be offering a 3-part workshop series, programmed to offer poets tools and experience in performing poetry.

At PBTo, we believe the performance of poetry is more than just reading your poem off your page, more than projecting your voice, more than memorising your work.

We believe in the value of making creative choices around the performance of your work. That this elevates the pleasure experienced by both the performer and the audience.

We believe that performing, rather than reading, poetry creates community, intimacy, and deepens the relationship we have to our work and our audience.

Most especially, we believe that anyone can improve their performance and quell their nerves with a combination of technique and practise - and we want to share ours with you.

Please Note:

Registration is limited to 6 people per session, to ensure ample time for feedback and work. Please note that you must take Performing Poetry I to participate in Parts II and III.

In Performing Poetry I, you will learn techniques to separate the writer from the editor, tools for breaking down your poetry as an actor would a script, and get your work up on its feet to workshop with PBTo producer and Madame Titania/Brendee Green.

Performing Poetry II

Continue the work and practise from I - this time with a more studio-based approach to performing poetry, including vocal and physical techniques, rehearsal, and performance feedback.

Performing Poetry III, Performing Character

Take your performance to the next level by experimenting with performing your poetry in a character, which you will create and develop throughout the course of the workshop.
